Processing Poppies

More Helpful Tips

  1. Sow an area of at least 50 sqft.
  2. After the flowers drop, wait a few weeks for the pods to change from green to green with a whiteish hue.
  3. Instead of only collecting pods, take the top 12 inches of stem as well. Cut those stems into 2-3 inch sections and process all that material, this will increase the yield significantly.
  4. After straining out the plant material, when the solution gets down to the last 1/4″ remove from heat (only use low heat setting) and evaporate the rest in a small 10″ stainless steel baking sheet (this will make collection much easier).
  5. Use a small fan to speed up the evaporation process. Evaporating the remaining water can take a few days so be patient.
